File repair

The only Mac recovery app that also repairs your files.

Recovery finds your files. Repair makes them usable. DataRecover Pro rebuilds JPEG, PNG, GIF, MP4/MOV, PDF, and Word (.docx) files, extracts the intact images inside damaged RAW, HEIC, TIFF, and archive files, and partial-salvages everything else — so a recovered file actually opens, not a broken-image icon.

When you recover data from a damaged, formatted, or partially overwritten drive, the bytes often come back out of order or missing the structure that makes them readable. The photo is mostly there; the header is gone. The video is mostly there; the index is gone. Recovery-only tools hand you those broken bytes and stop. DataRecover Pro keeps going.

Its repair engine identifies the format the data should be, then reconstructs what's broken — rewriting headers, rebuilding indexes, re-stitching frames, and salvaging every valid byte it can. It has dedicated rebuilders for JPEG, PNG, GIF, MP4/MOV, PDF, and Word (.docx); an extractor that pulls the intact images out of damaged RAW, HEIC, TIFF, and archive files; and a partial-salvage tier for everything else. Repair happens automatically as part of recovery, so you receive a working file instead of an error message.

One damaged file, before and after

Real engine output from the repair benchmark: 4 KiB of junk bytes in front of the photo, so a browser can't display it. The repaired file is byte-for-byte identical to the original (synthetic test image). Drag, or use the arrow keys.

What it repairs

Photos — JPEG, PNG, GIF

Full rebuild. Rewrites damaged headers, repairs chunk and segment tables, and restores EXIF so Preview, Photos, and Lightroom recognize the file again.

Video — MP4 & MOV

Full rebuild. Reconstructs the moov atom and frame tables, re-stitches video and audio streams, and rewrites a valid container so a recovered clip plays in QuickTime and beyond.

Documents — PDF & Word (.docx)

Full rebuild. Reconstructs a corrupted PDF's object table and cross-reference index, and repairs the ZIP container inside a .docx so Word opens it instead of reporting damage.

RAW, HEIC, TIFF & archives — image extraction

When a RAW file (CR2/CR3, NEF, ARW, RAF, RW2 and more), HEIC, TIFF, or ZIP is too damaged to rebuild, the extractor pulls out every intact JPEG, PNG, and GIF inside it — full-size embedded previews included — so you still get a usable photo. Everything else falls through to partial salvage.

Three tiers of repair

Clean

Fixes minor structural damage with no data loss — the file is whole, only its framing was broken.

Structural

Rebuilds the container around intact media streams when more of the structure is missing.

Partial

Salvages the readable portion when a file is only partly recoverable. Half a video — or a cropped photo — beats nothing.

Repair that can't hurt your Mac

Repairing a corrupted file means parsing untrusted, malformed data. DataRecover Pro runs every repair in a sandboxed worker process with no network access and no ability to write elsewhere on your filesystem — so even a deliberately malformed file is contained.
